It was in June 2026 when 19-year-old Texas teen Karmelo Anthony was sentenced to 35 years in prison after he was found guilty of murdering a fellow athlete, Austin Metcalf.
The horrific incident took place back in 2025. Following the incident, Anthony was arrested, and while he admitted to murdering Austin, he maintained during the trial that he did it in self-defense. According to the reports, Anthony requested a new trial, and during a hearing on August 20, 2026, it was revealed that the then 17-year-old was stalking his ex-girlfriend, and not only this, but also sent her some disturbing texts and images on the morning he committed the crime of killing 17-year-old Austin Metcalf.

According to courtroom coverage from WFAA, FOX 4, and KERA, during the hearing, which took place on August 20, 2026, it was revealed that Anthony’s ex-girlfriend told a school administrator that she was being stalked by him. According to the reports, Anthony’s ex-girlfriend also alleged that he refused to let her end their relationship.
