Attorney Jason Sheffield spoke out after KJ was arrested on charges of aggravated sodomy and aggravated sexual battery. In a statement shared with USA TODAY on August 21, 2026, Sheffield vouched for the teen’s innocence, stressing that both the accused and the alleged victim are minors and questioned why details of the case had become public. He then strongly defended KJ, saying he is “100 percent innocent.” Sheffield said:
“First and foremost, this is not the kind of information that should be for public dissemination. These are juveniles. Secondly, my client is 100% innocent and tried to present evidence to the arresting officer.”
